Special Needs or Rescued Maine Coons

Supreme Grand Champion Alter Coonyham Morgan who lives the life of Riley with a Maine Coon named Dapper Dan and a wonderful couple - Lynn and Mary Martin in Idaho.   Morgan was adopted by Lynn and Mary when he was a kitten.  He was never a rescued Maine Coon nor does he have any special needs - he is just a gorgeous Maine Coon who happens to be featured as the representative Maine Coon for Fancy Feast!  Since this page is about Maine Coons (who need rescuing or have special needs for adoption), we wanted to put a really beautiful Maine Coon out there as a breed representative.  Oh yeah, we also wanted to brag about Morgan.  Can you blame us?   J

Infrequently we may have or know of a locally rescued Maine Coon cat or kitten with special needs available for adoption. There is usually no charge for these pets (at most, a nominal fee or a donation to a shelter or rescue group such as the  Valley Humane Society or Tri-Valley Animal Rescue.   Anyone considering these cats for adoption should be aware that they may or may not have registration papers and they may have a special health or a temperament need that will be discussed.

We are very concerned about purebred and pedigreed Maine Coons-in-need who may need rescuing and therefore we have our names listed with various shelters.  We cannot participate in personally rescuing and fostering Maine Coon mixes or look-a-likes, but based on their circumstances, may list their information and situation here in the hopes of helping them find a new home quickly.  If you are interested in a special needs cat or adopting a rescued Maine Coon, then please let us know (by e-mail) so we can add you to our list of potential adoptees. :-)

Aurora is available for adoption.

As of 11/11/09:  Aurora is a large 9 year old brown tabby spayed female Maine Coon.  Her owner, Charity, is in financial difficulties and has to move to a “no pets allowed” apartment in the San Francisco East Bay.  Charity needs to rehome Aurora.  She reports that Aurora “was named after the Northern Lights "Aurora Borealis" due to her beauty.  Her mother "Autumn" came from Lunarcoons Maine Coons of San Jose and her father was once the Alaska state champion show cat "Samson".  She was born in Kodiak, Alaska.

She thrives best as a single cat, in a peaceful, clean and spacious home. Placement in a multiple cat home is negotiable. She is an indoor-only cat.  She needs to eat Purina Naturals dry food because her digestive system is sensitive and does not respond well to other food.  She uses pine pellet litter and will drink still filtered water but especially loves access to a running faucet.

Her personality is very sweet. She loves to be combed and pet once she is comfortable. She is gentle and can be a little shy to new people. Otherwise she loves to lounge with you in the evenings. She is usually most vocal in the morning when she wants to greet and eat. She needs an owner who will give her love and attention each day but she is otherwise pretty independent and just likes to be in your space. A mellow and attentive owner suits her personality well. An understanding and appreciation of cat behavior is important. She is pretty smart. A really nice house cat! A scratching post is good because she likes to scratch and is not declawed and must not be declawed.”

If interested in Aurora or for more info, please contact Charity directly by cell phone (619-398-6318) or email.
