SGC,
IW,
CH Coonyham Lone Star - RETIRED

Lone Star
passed away
in late April 2007 from inoperable lymphoma. He
fought hard for many months and was cherished every
second. We miss you, sweetie.
Lone Star
was TICA's's 21st
Best
International Cat in 1998 - his win was not Allbreed, but an
International Longhair
win. Lone Star
was also 4th Best Maine Coon for TICA in 1998 (following
Croton's
Tamara, Coonyham Rising Sun of Williamina and Willowplace Sorcerer of
Catalystic).
Coonyham
Lone Star was out of Wyndhaven Dakota of Coonyham and was
sired by SGC,
RW Coonceit
Majerle of Koontucky. His
mother, Dakota has produced
a number of lovely kittens for us
and we hoped to keep a male from her that could be bred (theoretically)
to
nearly all of our females. Lone
Star was a wonderful tribute to both Dakota and Majerle (pronounced
Marley).
Our thanks to Laurel Grams of Wyndhaven for Dakota and to JulieMeehan
for
letting us breed Dakota to her special boy, Majerle.
Lone Star had the most
wonderful temperament, evident as
a young kitten. He was a
beautiful brown
classic tabby and white male who is very sweet and loving. He was
large
and extremely long in the body with excellent type. Lone Star had a great
show year
in 1997-98 and he ended up TICA's 12th Best International Longhair Cat
(21st
Best International Cat) and 4th best of breed Maine Coon Cat. :-) We were thrilled because we were not
"campaigning"him and wanted Coonyham Rising Sun of Williamina to have
a great year so we agented "Sunny" and left Lone Star home from
several shows
so he would not get in Sunny's way. :-) Happily
for us, both boys did extremely well that year
and even better – went on to sire healthy kittens and to shower us all
with
love.
Lone Star never
sprayed or marked
so he lived loose in the house for the most part. We
only confined him when young females had run of the house.
He was fascinated by ladders, whenever
Joe was painting or fixing
lights.
:-) Lone Star was examined
by Dr. Mark Kittleson at UC Davis
three times and given an ultrasound in May 1998, May 1999 and
July 2000,
2001 and 2003. He also was
examined by Dr. Siemens. Lone Star’s
heart tested via echocardiogram without any signs of HCM and he tested
negative
for MybPC Mutation (DNA).
His
hips were
certified as Fair by the OFA. He made gorgeous babies for
us. Click

Rough Rider - RETIRED

Rider was TICA's's 14th
Best
International Cat in 2000. Rider was also
Best Maine Coon for TICA in 2000 -
an award
surpassed only by his father Navarro's accomplishments. Rider was also
Best AB Cat
for TICA's Mid-Pacific Region.
Rider was a brown
classic
tabby and white male. Rider had a
wonderfully
gentle temperament. He was very curious and playful. When he was
a kitten,
we started to think he had toys growing from his mouth since he carried
them
around everywhere. He was especially fond of the toys sent to us by
Michi
Sasamoto. :-)
Rider
was
fascinated by our second litter of Japanese Bobtails who definitely had
"tail envy". This might be because Rider had one of
the most magnificent tails we've ever
seen and the
Bobtail kittens (Monica, Picachu and Haiku) would stare
at his tail in absolute
wonder and
amazement. :-)
Rider
was sired
by Navarro and his
mother is TGC Coonyham Trinity.
Trinity had only
one litter for us; she delivered her litter prematurely and Rider was the sole
survivor.
Needless to say, after that very touch and go beginning, Rider claimed all
of our
hearts and as he thrived, we
rejoiced.
There was no way we were going to part with this guy, so we hoped that
he would
be show quality and happily - he was! Rider had a very
successful
show career; earning many Best of the Best awards. He has a
fantastic
hard, heavy body, so carrying him around at shows worked wonders for
our upper
body muscles!
Rider had his hips
certified
as Good with OFA. His heart was checked for HCM by Dr. Kittleson
at UC
Davis and showed no signs of HCM (July 30, 2000) - looked perfect in
fact.
He was rechecked in 2001 and 2003 and his heart looked great! His
DNA MybPC
test was negative as well. Here is Rider's pedigree.

Coonyham's Sundance - RETIRED

Sundance was TICA's
International 9th Best Allbreed Cat and 9th
Best Allbreed Kitten in 1993. He was a
CFA
regional best of color in 1994, and is a two show CFA grand champion. Sundance is
also a two
show
ACFA grand champion.
He
and Santana, his
littermate sister,
are from Cheyenne and SGC
Ryanplace K Mart Special, a blue tabby.
Sundance was born in April 1992. He was ultrasounded several times for
hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM) at UC Davis. His last exam and
ultrasound was
done (as usual) by Dr. Mark Kittleson in May 1999. Sundance had
his hips
checked for displasia and received an OFA Fair prelim rating.
Sundance was our
first TICA Outstanding Sire as well,
having sired well over ten TICA grand champion offspring. Click to see
his
pedigree here. He
produced
lovely kittens for us. He was neutered in 1999. Sadly,
Sundance
passed away and he will be forever missed. We
love you, big guy!

Coonyham Navarro - RETIRED

Navarro was TICA's Eighth Best
International Cat in 1995 (and
Fourth Best LH Cat) and 10th Best International Kitten in 1994. Navarro was also
Best Maine Coon for TICA in 1995 -
an award
that means a great deal to us. Navarro was Best Regional Cat for
the MP
region in 1995. Navarro was also Best Regional Kitten for the SW
Region
in 1994.
Navarro was shown over two
show seasons, so unlike Sundance and Santana who got IWs as kittens and
cats in
the SAME SHOW SEASON, Navarro qualifies for a TICA Lifetime Achievement
award.
Navarro
was out
of Santana and SGC/GC
MtKittery Carbonero of Emlu, a solid
black. Navarro was a dark brown classic tabby with glowing rufousing so
he
appeared quite warm in color yet with glossy black contrast. He carried
solid
and dilute.
This
is
Navarro's pedigree. To
date, Navarro
is our "gold standard" in type, loving temperament and show
success.
He matured beautifully, never jowled or turned coarse in features,
instead
became more magnificent and lion-like with time. He kept perfect
proportions from day one. He was not perfect (none of our cats
are), but
he was very, very special to us.
Navarro
went
over the Rainbow Bridge in late April 2005, due to inoperable and very
severe
gall bladder disease. We miss you, baby.
Here is Navarro’s memorial
page.

Coltrane - RETIRED

Coltrane
was TICA's 16th Best
International Cat in 2000. Coltrane was also Second Best Maine Coon Cat for TICA in 2000
and Fifth
Best Maine Coon Kitten Internationally. Regionally - Coltrane was
Second
Best AB Cat and Fifth Best AB Kitten for TICA's Mid-Pacific
Region. He
had a very busy show season last year and he surpassed his father's
show
accomplishments. Lone Star is very proud of his son.
Coltrane is a very
special boy. We never planned to
keep him,
but we finally stopped fighting our desire to do so. :-)
Coltrane
is the most enjoyable cat we've had to date. He is so loving that
he will
even head bump us during his show baths. He is one of the few
cats who
can get away with doing *bad* things other cats cannot (like jumping on
the
dining room table during dinner!) because he is so endearing and so
very
lovable. He knows he can get away with anything - he has supreme
confidence and a "Huck Finn" attitude. Coltrane loves to play around
on cat
trees.
He also enjoys being "King of the Hill" on the tall
(Maine-Coon-sized) scratching post. Coltrane likes to jump on Joe and
head bump
him or snuggle with him, especially when Joe is holding a glass of wine
or
coffee. Coltrane enjoys mayhem. ;-) He also knows
just when
to run away quickly.
Coltrane and his
brother were
nicknamed Abbott and Costello (his brother Abbott lives in Donna, Texas
and was
registered as Coonyham Pancho Villa) and these
two boys
were the biggest jokers and clowns we'd ever seen. Nothing has
changed -
thank goodness, these clowns will never grow up. Coltrane's
parents are
Lone Star and Madera and here is his pedigree. We think he looks a lot like his
grandfather - Coonceit Majerle of Koontucky.
Coltrane
loved
being shown. He is very relaxed and usually will launch a full
body
stretch and extend his toes the minute we or a judge pick him up in a
show
stretch position. Somehow we trained him to do this but we don't
know
how!!! :-) Coltrane had a great show year and we loved
every minute
with him. He was a delight to show; a true "show cat" who loves
every aspect of showing except perhaps the car ride. ;-)
Coltrane
had a
cardiac ultrasound with Dr. Kittleson at UC Davis andis free of HCM
(July 2000
and 2001). He was bred to Nola and to Gold Dust and then,
when he
had a spray war with another male, Tommy - we neutered them both so we
could
welcome both boys back into the main house as pillow kitties and door
greeters.
Coltrane is one of the few who can get away with visiting us at the
dining room
table. He's that cool.
Update:
Coltrane is now amusing Nicole Freeman and her gang of Maine
Coons. :-)
Sarajen
Nighthawk of Coonyham - RETIRED

Tommy is
on the left
side
Tommy
is a
black and white tuxedo marked boy. He is very sweet and loving,
insists
on being on laps constantly and likes to give kisses. He is
really a
lovely boy - once you get past his cute markings. He's very typey
with a
great muzzle, chin, profile and huge ears. He is long, rangy and
has a
long tail and big puppy boning. We have some old photos of him at 3.5
months - need to
get some
recent pictures taken! Take a look at these photos...
He
likes to
bang on doors to be let into bedrooms to snuggle. He is
constantly
underfoot and helps himself to whatever you are eating or
drinking. He's
not spoiled - nah! We are enjoying him tremendously and it was
fun to see
how the judges reacted to him since he is not a popular or common color
(i.e.
brown tabby). Our thanks and gratitude to Teri and Ken Matzkin of Sarajen cats for
this super
boy. Tommy did mature very quickly and decided that he and
Coltrane were
going to have a spraying war - we declared them both losers and
promptly
neutered both of them. Quality of life is too important to us to
have
these boys unhappy. Tommy has adjusted to life as a neuter and
has
claimed everyones' laps again (and sometimes the dining room
table). He's
such a helper. He's also very large - over 18 lbs of solid muscle.
Update:
Tommy is busy showing off his "coolness" with Brook and Dawn Wentner
and their house of kids and Maine Coons.
I'm
not sure
why, but we seem to place adult Maine Coons with folks who already have
3 or 4
of these cool critters. ;-) Could it be yet another sign of
Maine
Coon addiction?
